Well I like Josephine Oniyama anyway (posted by Kate)

Brownswood Bubblers has only just hit the shelves and Gilles is on one gathering tunes for the next one. He’s just laughed at me for going on about Josephine Oniyama, but what can I say, I like a bit of folkyness. I’m a Joan Armatrading fan too. Totally underrated. Maybe I’ll start my own series. Speaking of folk was anyone at the John Martyn gig at the Barbican last month early enough to catch John Smith, the support? One man and a guitar brilliance if you like that kind of thing. Although obviously the big man himself was the star. Thanks Ems and Tug for taking me along. Anyway, back to Bubblers. I don’t often play work stuff at home (am I supposed to admit that?) But I love it – right from its Shawn J Period start all the way to its Yellowtail finish, without so much as a dip in my enjoymentometer…… If you haven’t got it for yourself yet, you’re sleeping. Just saw that Seattle soulstress Choklate’s doing a PA at the Southport Weekender in a coupla weeks too… love her and the first tune I heard of hers was the ‘Heavy’ track we put on Bubblers.  Roll on Southport – I’m a soul weekender virgin and I can’t wait. Karizma’s there too, DJing, although he better not get on that plane from Baltimore til he’s done his Heritage Orchestra remix. Isn’t that right K?!......
